Golden Globes: Awkwafina’s Christian Dior Gown Was Classic, but Her Shoes Were Comfortable

At last year’s Oscars, actor and comedian Awkwafina turned heads with a glittery lavender leisure suit, but at Sunday’s Golden Globes she went for a more classic Hollywood look. Nominated for best actress in a musical or comedy for her role in The Farewell, Awkwafina arrived in a black and cream gown from Christian Dior couture with a ruffle at the collar. But she mixed it up by topping the gown with a sleek black blazer from another couture look.

She settled on the look with the help of her stylist, Erica Cloud, who has also worked with Kacey Musgraves, D’Arcy Carden, and Zooey Deschanel. The pair went into awards season with an open mind. “We tried on many different styles that ran the gamut from sleek to huge gown,” Cloud said via email. “Originally we had wanted to find something colorful, but landed on the iconic pairing of black and cream which you can never go wrong with! We felt it looked elegant and effortless.”

The mix of gown and blazer was chosen to create architectural interest. “With the coat collar on top, [the] ruffled neckline of the gown perfectly frames her face with its detail and texture,” she added.
